The Cavalier Hotel

Cavalier Hotel

One of the most haunted places in Virginia is the Cavalier Hotel located in Virginia Beach.

This particular hotel was established in the year of 1927. In the earliest days of operation, the hotel was used as a training center for the United States Navy during the course of World War II. From the year of 1927 to the year of 1942, the hotel was quite busy accommodating famous political figures and celebrities. The records indicate that individuals such as Richard Nixon and Dwight D. Eisenhower visited the establishment. In this guide, you will learn about the hauntings of the Cavalier Hotel.

This particular hotel has been identified as the "Aristocrat of the Virginia Seashore". Many individuals associated the establishment with only those that were socially elite, but it was also a location that hosted a wide array of events and lodging accommodations for those from all walks of life. The first major incident of this haunted place occurred on the 5th day of June in the year of 1929. An individual that owned a local brewery by the name of Adolph Coors went out of a 6th floor window and tragically met his death. There is a lot of speculation about this event. Many believe it was purely accidental, while others believe it was a suicide. Still, there are some that believe that it was a murder.

Despite of how the death actually occurred, several believe that the spirit of Adolph Coors remains in and around the haunted hotel. When evaluating haunted places in Virginia, it is quite common to hear of such events. Many claim that they have felt cold breezes overtake them for which no rational explanation could be found. There are some that have stated that the apparition of a man on the 6th floor can be seen periodically. There are even reports of loud noises occurring frequently on the cement on the area where the man hit the ground and died. Could it be that this spirit still resides in the hotel? Perhaps he could be searching for a way to explain his death to the living, or perhaps he has yet to discover the portal between the physical world and the spiritual world.

At one point in the hotel's colorful history, it has been stated that a young girl died in the swimming pool. It is believed that this child and her cat actually resided in the Cavalier Hotel. The young girl loved the cat and they were always seen around each other. Unfortunately, one night, the cat escaped from the room where the child resided. As the cat roamed in the outdoor area, she accidently fell into the swimming pool on the grounds. Shortly after this happened, the young girl noticed that her cat was not in the room, so she wandered out into the halls desperately searching for her pet. When she was unable to locate the animal on the inside of the home, she went outside. Immediately, she noticed her beloved pet in the pool and went in after her. Unfortunately, she too drowned.

Since this took place, several guests have made reports of unusual sounds and paranormal based events occurring around the swimming pool. Often times, these are unexplained noises for which no origin can be discovered. In some instances, many have claimed to hear the sounds of a cat as well as a child. Many guests staying in various rooms have called the front desk to report a cat outside their door, and there are others who looked outside their door upon hearing a cat to find nothing was in the hall. While many haunted places in Virginia have stories surrounding the ghostly spirits of children, having the ghostly spirit of a cat is quite unique.

Last, but not least, is the spirit of the colored bellboy. Out of all the haunted places in Virginia, this spirit is quite unique as he apparently warns the guests of the spirits located on the 6th floor of the establishment. Several guests have attempted to go up to the 6th floor, and have discovered this ghost on the 5th floor. Upon encountering the spirit, they are told to go back down to the first floor "because there are ghosts up there". When the front desk is told this, they inform the guests that the man has not worked in the hotel for quite some time.
