The Rawls Hotel is considered to be one of the most haunted hotels in Enterprise, Alabama. This hotel was established by a well liked married couple named Margaret and Japheth Rawls.
This couple actually played a large role in the actual growth of the community. These individuals wanted to bring something new and unique to Enterprise. They had seen a hotel in Florida that represented a Spanish architectural style, and so they designed the Rawls Hotel in this manner. The Hauntings of the Rawls Hotel
There are actually several different types of hauntings that have occurred at the Rawls Hotel. The following lists some of the various experiences that many employees and guests alike have experienced:
1. There are many spirits at the hotel that seem to be children. It is not known why child spirits would be roaming the establishment, but it is believed that possibly these are the children whose families would stay at the hotel in the early days. Many believe that because the children had an emotional connection to the hotel after death, that they returned. In addition to this, it is believed that these may simply be
residual hauntings,
or “recordings” of events that occurred in the past. Whenever there is a strong emotional connection to an area, it increases the energy to that location. If children were playing and having a good time, the emotion of happiness is there and recorded in the energy fields around the hotel.
2. It is believed that the spirit of Mr. Rawls is still in the hotel, guarding it and overseeing the activities of the employees. In one particular instance, an employee was held responsible for hanging treatments for windows. It was said that for days, he kept coming back to find the window treatment down and as he went to put it back up, he was immediately hit with a board that was located in the room. While it shocked him, he quickly decided that good ole Mr. Rawls was trying to tell him that it just was not an appropriate choice for the room.
3. Many individuals have been seen on the second and the third floor in the form of mild apparitions, and have been heard. It is not uncommon to hear footsteps or the sounds of doors opening and closing on these floors. Smells, such as that of cigars and even perfume have been recorded in this area too.
